Daniel Moir Returns with 'Swing and Sway'

Daniel Moir Returns with 'Swing and Sway'
It took a bit of soul-searching and a retreat from the music scene to get him there, but Vancouver singer-songwriter Daniel Moir has unveiled his next step. The recharged artist delivers fourth album Swing and Sway independently on November 1.

A press release explains that Moir stepped away from the stage for an extended period after wrapping promotion behind 2013's full-length Monday Morning. A hiatus found him backpacking through Indonesia, where he contemplated his life's purpose. The trip found him travelling in a different mindset than he had been accustomed to via the touring life.

"I was feeling a bit burned out after Monday Morning," Moir said in a statement. "I needed to do some soul-searching and travelling that wasn't just for music for once."

But while the trip had been intended to escape his singer-songwriter duties, Moir conceded that "musical hiatuses are not for me." While travelling abroad, he ended up jamming with local musicians and playing venues across the Gili Islands. Upon his return, he began to plot out Swing and Sway.

Outside of songwriting and performing, Moir handled songwriting, production, engineering and mixing, and he even prepped the artwork. That said, he did have some help in the studio, with guests appearing on the record including pedal steel player Paul Rigby (Neko Case), Zolas drummer Cody Hiles (the Zolas), trumpeter Alison Gorman (Queer as Funk) and violinist Michael Fraser.

To help tease the upcoming collection, Moir has shared a video for gentle, jazz-folk album track "Sorry," which he had first premiered in 2014. He's also shared the brand new album opener "Seize Your Day." You'll find both below, along with Swing and Sway's tracklisting and a few upcoming tour dates.
