Last night (October 5), Japandroids members Brian King and David Prowse stepped onstage in Vancouver together for the first time since 2013. The show was the first of a four-night stand at the Cobalt, and it showcased fan favourites and a clutch of cuts from an as-yet-undetailed third full-length album that band promised is "coming soon."

As explained in Exclaim!'s review of the concert, Japandroids kicked off the night with a lengthy piece from the new album called "Arc of Bar," a song King referred to as the "longest and weirdest song on new album." It featured textured electronic drum production, in addition to the duo's regular guitar-and-drum approach.

All told, five new songs were premiered at the Cobalt. The band themselves didn't say what any of the songs were called, but a set list confirms titles "Near to the Wild Heart," "True Love…," "No Known Drink or Drug" and "Midnight to Morning," the latter being a song on which Prowse sings lead vocals. It should be noted that while the band performed these new songs, the set as a whole didn't end up playing out exactly as the set list had been written.
Japandroids were mum about the specifics on the LP's creation, but opening act Needles//Pins noted that longtime local producer Jesse Gander (White Lung, Pack A.D.) had once again partnered with Japandroids in the studio. He'd previously sat behind the boards for 2009's Post-Nothing and 2012's Celebration Rock.
