The Jerry Cans Reveal New Album for Nunavut's First Record Label
Two years on from the release of Aakuluk, Iqaluit, Nunavut folk outfit the Jerry Cans have announced their return. The band's third full-length release is called Inuusiq/Life, and it arrives November 4 via a partnership between Pheromone Distribution/Fontana North and the newly formed Aakuluk Music — Nunavut's first record label.

A press release explains that the Jerry Cans' upcoming nine-song set was recorded at Toronto's Woodshed facility with producer Michael Phillip Wojewoda. The album is said to reflect "the challenges and beauty of life in the Far North," and deal with subjects like culture, politics, family and land. Sonically, the record fuses roots rock flavours with Nunavut's musical traditions.

To help tease the set, the Jerry Cans are streaming first single "Ukiuq" ("Northern Lights"). The song was recorded in both Inuktitut and in English, a first for the band.

"Releasing an Inuktitut and English version of the songs is something totally new for us," the Jerry Cans' Nancy Mike said in a statement. "Both versions of the song give me the feeling of being in the long cold Arctic winters. There are so many different types of heartbreaks and souls lost during those times but when you look up to the lights it can bring you comfort. Sometimes it is hard to find that light and warmth in the winter, and we hope this song gives you a bit of that spark."

Both versions can be heard in a SoundCloud player down below. There, you'll also find a lyric video for the track.
